VTG 1940s Compact Vanity Alligator Gold Rush Confetti Lucite 'Camera Case' style

Very unusual powder compact / lipstick / vanity from the forties
'Camera case" shape in brass plate with alligator skin
Front has a California Gold Rush Confetti Lucite square cabochon with gold flake, tiny pick, shovel and gold panning dish
Inside front has powder compartment with screen and a beveled mirror, back compartment has a removable card with manicure tools and space underneath to stash a few folded  bills, lipstick tube slides in end
Lid of back compartment has a photo of a WWII soldier
4" x 2" x .75", condition is OK-  a few dings to skin, plating loss and scratching, hinge pin on back is a little loose, leather lace on tassel is worn and fragile, only 2 manicure tools remaining
Condition is good for collection / display but too fragile to carry imo
Guessing this is a souvenir / centenial kind of thing- mid/late forties (49ers) era probably California
