Vintage Mother of Pearl USN "Sweetheart" Makeup Compact

This makeup compact is in good shape. No powder or sponge, and it doesn't close all the way. It almost closes, I wonder if the latch is dirty or out of place. Could potentially be fixed. Overall in good shape. No exterior damage. The story behind this item is truly beautiful and special. I bought this compact from a lady who said her father/grandfather gifted this to his wife during WWII as a token of his love to her. Usually, back in the 40s, a loved one would receive a gift such as a USN pin from their sailor at war. Some were lucky enough to get something like this, a USN makeup compact. This is why it is called a "Sweetheart Compact". This has been in her family since it was gifted to her grandmother/mother.
