Vintage Elgin American Sterling Silver Compact

Description

Very stylish solid sterling silver compact in the Elgin American line.  This is a modified heart or teardrop shape and measures 3 1/2" by 3 1/4" and is only 3/8" thick.  This has an overall brushed surface finish both top and bottom.  On the top there are raised lines and some etching and bright cut work to generate a scroll design.  The latch is still tight and top and bottom line up properly. Mirror inside is very thin with little weight.  There is an original Elgin American powder puff, well used but proper for this compact.  The cover for the powder reservoir has guilloche work both top and bottom.  Still has some powder inside. The lock for this inner lid is still fully functional.  Marked Elgin American  Made in USA  Sterling inside the case on the top lid to the powder reservoir.  Total weight is 139g, likely more than 120g of sterling silver.  Some scratches on outside, very little on top, some more on the bottom.  Inside is very good.
