Vintage Art Deco compact with a romantic rose on the lid, for powder and rouge. This is a petite and very lovely Art Deco compact that I am sure once belong to an outgoing young woman with a passion for life and all that it offered ... just as young women of today do .... but during her time ... it meant more because she was a part of a movement of freedom that started it all for the young women of today. The Art Deco period started in France after WW I and traveled to America by the returning troops. Everyone felt a new period of change in the air. And it was a period of change. Young women had some money to spend, thanks to their ability to work while the men were away during the war. Young women were brash, bold, and eager to enjoy life. They had not yet settled down to a life of marriage, children, a home and bills .... the world was their oyster ... so for a little while they dressed up in the finery, went to parties and danced their nights away in a care-free world of romance and blissful times ... until they fell in love and married and found a new form of happiness ... family life. But their past memories stayed with them for ever .... for them the Art Deco period was a time of their youthful happiness as it should have been.This petite and very lovely Art Deco piece is a fond remembrance of the art Deco period. Besides its beauty and charm, it offers a space for power, a rouge pot and its inside cover closure was used as an unbreakable mirror. It is a truly pretty piece with a private history of its own that unfortunately we are not privy to. But that it the way that it should be.
