Antique Portieux Vallerysthal Blue Opaline Milk Glass Lidded Squirrel Dish

For sale is an Antique PORTIEUX VALLERYSTHAL Blue Opaline Milk Glass Covered Dish with a SQUIRREL finial handle, Made in France. This piece is in wonderful condition, but there is a small chip/crack on a back ridge of the lid (see photos for detail). It is not really noticeable unless you're looking for it, and does not take away from the beauty of this piece.  Vallerysthal Glassworks was founded in 1836 in Lorraine, France and manufactured luxury table and decorative glass, Opaline, cameo, and art glass pieces with focus on covered, pressed glass animal dishes in the 19th century. This piece is intricately detailed with an ornate baroque style base and ribbed design which carries through on the curved lid, topped with a finial shaped like a delicate squirrel and nut. The dish measures roughly 2 1/2" tall x 5" long x 3 1/4" wide on a 4 1/4" x 2 1/2" footer. The lid is 2 1/2" tall x 5 3/8" x 3 5/8". Pieces like this don't come around often and few still exist.
